New Study Shows Health Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet

The health benefits of the Mediterranean diet in warding off heart attacks and strokes startled even the experts reveals the article published on The New England Journal of Medicine’s Web site on Monday.

The findings were based on the first major clinical trial to measure the diet’s effect on heart risks and the results were so impressive that the trial ended early, because it was considered unethical to continue.

The Mediterranean diet includes daily portions of olive oil, nuts, beans, fish, fruits and vegetables, and a glass of wine with meals for adults. In this diet red meat, processed foods, sugars and sodas are eaten in little quantity and on rare occasions.
