Kids and Sports: A Simple Flashcard Test to Detect Concussions

A new study of student athletes found that an easy, quick and inexpensive vision test administered by a coach or a parent after a young athlete has hit his or her head can help reliably determine whether a concussion has been sustained.

“If an athlete hits his or her head and is then slower than baseline by even a fraction of a second at reading off the numbers, Dr. Galetta said, it is very probable he or she has a concussion and needs to be taken from play and seen by a doctor. ” Read more.
